“Healthcare – Sonography Safety” is a specialized training designed for sonographers and healthcare professionals involved in ultrasound examinations. The course focuses on safe patient movement and positioning, safe use of sonography equipment, and prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).

The training introduces participants to ergonomic and other occupational hazards in the sonographer’s work environment, including repetitive movements, awkward postures, and prolonged static positions, as well as practical methods for reducing these risks through engineering controls, safe work practices, and effective scheduling.

1. Safe Patient Movement and Positioning

  • Hazards associated with transporting patients in healthcare facilities;
  • Safe methods for moving and transporting patients;
  • Best practices for patient transfer and positioning;
  • Protecting both the patient and healthcare worker when repositioning patients.

2. Safe Use of Sonography Equipment

  • Hazards associated with using sonography equipment in examination rooms;
  • Best practices for safe operation of ultrasound equipment;
  • Hazards associated with transducers and materials used for imaging;
  • Safe use of transducers and other supporting materials;
  • Hazards associated with ultrasound systems and monitors;
  • Safe practices for using ultrasound and monitoring equipment.

3. Ergonomics in the Sonographer’s Work Environment

  • Ergonomic hazards encountered throughout the sonographer’s workday;
  • Repetitive movements, awkward postures, reaching, and prolonged static positions;
  • Prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs);
  • Assessment and reduction of ergonomic workplace risks.

4. Risk Control and Injury Prevention

  • Engineering control measures;
  • Safe work practice controls;
  • Scheduling and break planning to reduce the risk of injury;
  • Implementing safe work environments and preventive practices.
