Aerial and Scissor Lift Safety

The “Aerial and Scissor Lift Safety” training covers the key requirements and best practices for the safe use of aerial lifts and scissor lifts in the workplace.

The course covers applicable OSHA standards, the main types and capabilities of aerial and scissor lifts, common hazards associated with their use, as well as safety procedures to be followed before, during, and after equipment operation.

This training is a general safety course and does not replace equipment-specific operator training for a particular model or type of aerial or scissor lift.

Equipment-specific operator training must be conducted by a competent person and should include hands-on practice, demonstration of operating skills, and competency assessment.

Program Components

1. OSHA Requirements and Lift-Related Hazards

• OSHA requirements related to aerial and scissor lifts;
• Employer and employee responsibilities;
• Common incidents and hazards associated with aerial and scissor lifts;
• Main types of aerial lifts;
• Capabilities and limitations of different types of lifts;
• Key differences between aerial lifts and scissor lifts.

2. Pre-Use Safety Inspection and Workplace Assessment

• Pre-use safety inspection;
• Assessment of equipment condition;
• Evaluation of the work area and surrounding environment;
• Identification of technical and environmental hazards that may arise during operations;
• Preparing and maintaining equipment in a safe operating condition.

3. Safe Operation and Hazard Prevention

• Basic procedures for the safe operation of aerial and scissor lifts;
• Hazard prevention during operation;
• Fall-from-height hazards;
• Fall Protection and Fall Restraint systems;
• Application of safe work practices when operating aerial and scissor lifts.

4. Post-Operation Procedures, Inspection, and Safe Storage

• Safety measures after completion of work;
• Procedures for shutting down and securing the lift;
• Post-use inspection;
• Identification of damage and safety deficiencies;
• Safe parking and storage of aerial and scissor lifts.
