Work Zone Traffic Safety

Road and construction work zones are high-risk work environments where employees may be exposed to moving vehicles, construction equipment, and other hazards at the same time. Proper traffic organization, safe work practices, and effective control measures are essential for preventing workplace accidents and injuries.

The Safety in Road and Construction Work Zones training is designed to provide participants with knowledge of the primary transportation and workplace safety hazards associated with work zones, as well as the basic principles of hazard identification and control. The program covers Temporary Traffic Control Plans, safe pedestrian practices, vehicle blind spots, backing safety, nighttime work hazards, and the proper use of traffic signs, signals, and barriers.

2. Traffic Control and Safe Movement

• Safe use of traffic signs, signals, and barriers;
• Safe organization of vehicle traffic within work zones.

3. Vehicle Safety

• Vehicle blind spots;
• Basic principles of safe backing operations;
• Use of spotters during backing;
• Use of cameras, proximity detection systems, and tag-based systems.

4. Risk Prevention and Safe Work Practices

• Identification of transportation and workplace hazards;
• Measures to reduce exposure and collision risks;
• Effective use of safety procedures and control measures;
• Development of a strong safety culture in work zones.
