Electrical Safety - Hazards and Controls
Working with electricity involves risks such as electric shock, burns, arc flash, fire, and other serious injuries. Proper identification of electrical hazards, risk assessment, and implementation of appropriate protective measures are essential for maintaining a safe work environment.
This training introduces participants to the fundamental principles of electrical safety, the effects of electrical current, arc flash hazards, wiring safety, protective devices, and safety requirements for high-voltage work. The program is based on applicable OSHA and NFPA 70E safety practices.

1. Electrical Hazards and Basic Concepts
• Major hazards associated with working with electricity;
• Volts, ohms, amperes, and series/parallel circuits;
• The effect of electrical current on injury severity;
• Basic principles of electrical hazard risk assessment and control.
2. Arc Flash and Wiring Safety
• Arc flash hazards and potential injuries;
• Key components of an electrical safety model;
• Hazards associated with improper wiring;
• Safe wiring work practices;
• Use of Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI).
3. High-Voltage Work Safety
• Key safety requirements for high-voltage work;
• Minimum safe approach distances;
• Risk control when working near energized electrical circuits;
• Safety training requirements for employees working with electrical circuits.
4. Standards and Safe Work Practices
• Applicable OSHA electrical safety requirements;
• Relevant NFPA 70E safety practices;
• Measures for preventing and controlling electrical hazards;
• Development of a strong electrical safety culture and safe work practices.
